cause the heater is still on full or nearly full for a while after.  Still getting more heat than losing it across most of the northern hemisphere.  the rate of heating starts to slow, but it is still more than the heat loss (which is starting to increase).  the crossover is weeks later.  The reverse happens in winter, where coldest happens in late Jan-early Feb.
