How to take a screen screen shot on a desktop P.C?

Update:

Sorry to be a nuisance but, my "print screen" is the same key as the "insert" key, does that make any difference and if so, what do I do?

You should set up a Snipping tool. You can take a screenshot easily on a desktop P.C by the Snipping tool.

To capture your entire screen and automatically save the screenshot, tap the Windows key + Print Screen key. Your screen will briefly go dim to indicate that you've just taken a screenshot, and the screenshot will be saved to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

Simply press PrtSc icon on your computer and you can get a copy of this screenshot. Then all you need to do is paste this picture to anywhere you want. The shortcoming is that you're only allowed to take a screenshot of the whole screen.

If you want to a select the area and desire useful editing functions, Snagit is recommended for you.

    Will Assume your using Windows

Two ways =   1. Print Screen key on the Keyboard.   Does not actually print, but stores the image into Clipboard where you can paste it into Paint then save it.

    2.  Snipping Tool, which comes with Windows (7, 8, & 10)

The first two answers are correct and if you just want to print an open screen that is highlighted  and not all of the screen press ALT+Print Screen.

For any windows computer press the prtscn button (top right usually on most keyboards) - this will copy the screenshot to the clipboard, open up paint or other image editor, file, new, edit, paste

For windows 10 use the snip and sketch app, this can be downloaded from the Microsoft store if needed, it’s free
