Are corroded leaking batteries very dangerous?

Someone here is just laying down corroded batteries on their bed and not being very careful. Should we be using masks and gloves to remove the batteries? How dangerous is this situation?

Just wash your hands after touching them.

The liquid that can leak is mildly corrosive and may damage some other things or cause corrosion to metal surfaces, plus skin irritation.

Treat is as you would washing soda or any similar thing that you would not want leaving on skin, clothes or valuables.

You should be using gloves because it can be corrosive. I don’t think you need to wear masks.
