    These are the steps to find the distance between two sets of coordinates.

    1. Take the absolute difference between the two X points 12 and 6 which is 6.

    2. Square 6 = 36

    3. Take the absolute difference between the two Y points 20 and 12 which is 8.

    4. Square 8 = 64

    5.  ADD 36 + 64 =  100

    6.  Take the Square Root of 100 = 10

    The distance between the two point is 10.

    To find the mid point follow these steps:

    1. Add the two X points and divide by 2.    12+6 = 18   18/2 = 9

    2. Add the two Y points and divide by 2.     20+12 = 32   32/2 = 16

    The mid point is (9,16)

    You have not stated what the scale of the map is. Without that data, how far apart the 2 stars are cannot be calculated because of insufficient information. The coordinates half way between would bye (6,8). 12 - 6 = 6, 20 - 12 = 8.
