Did less democrats vote because of the media saying there's no chance Trump can win?

eh, i saw it as more hillary screwing up the campaign herself not reaching out to those disenfranchised groups. trump convinced many of those people in those swing states and reached out to them and convinced them that illegal immigration was the problem, he was going to bring new jobs, a wall, and bring america first.

Yes, clearly that happened.

If you're talking about 2016, that could have been the case to some extent, but in reality Clinton screwed up the campaign. She should have gone to those three swing states and campaigned. In all three, Trump's margin of victory was less than the number of people who voted for Dr. Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate. If those people had felt that it was more important to keep Trump from winning than to cast a symbolic vote, things might have turned out differently.
Obama got 69.5M votes in 2008 and 65.9M in 2012. Clinton got almost exactly what Obama did in 2012, but they weren't in the right states, so even though she won by 3M votes, she lost the Electoral College.

That's possible, but remember this: it was only the battleground states that mattered.

Maybe some registered Democrats, especially moderates, simply saw that the radicals were overtaking their party.
