Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol over a long period of time can cause fatty liver (so can other things).

You ask, “how much alcohol?”. It's not like that. The liver is at risk of alcohol-related problems because it's the liver that metabolises alcohol. If it's asked to process either frequent high amounts of alcohol or more reasonable amounts virtually every day then there is a food chance that after a fairly long period of time, it will have problems.

There really isn't a set amount of alcohol that causes a particular disease. All anybody can say is excessive amounts of alcohol, frequently, over long periods of time. After that, it's down to your own common sense.
