# How calculus need in real life,,,Give practical example plz!?

Calculus is based upon two formulae: That for the rate of change and that for the area. That's all there is to it.

If you know how something behaves in general, you can calculate the rate of change at any time based upon the formula. If you can describe how something looks, you can calculate its area.

Whether in knowing how much water is required to fill a funny shaped bathtub or at what rate your car will pick up speed as you roll down the hill, you are doing calculus whether you use the formulae or not. So, you might as well learn the formulae. It can save you a speeding ticket, stop you from getting rear-ended, or from drowning your baby.

The only time when you need calculus in life as if you were going for a career in engineering or science. Business careers might require a but of calculus but not much as engineering and science.

Watching flood water rise and making predictions for flooding based on rain-gauge rates around a city is an example of the calculus behind Riemann sums. We live with that every day in New Orleans.

You personally might not use calculus in real life - but the persons who invented your TV, smart phone, microwave oven, household electrical wiring, and internal combustion automobile all used calculus.

Simple example from your car: The size of your radiator is computed based on the rate of heat dissipation based on airflow. Too small a radiator and you quickly have a hunk of steaming junk on your hands. Too large a radiator and you are carrying around more weight under the hood than was really needed, thus wasting fuel. And that involves calculus.

Here's another one. Your house has insulation to help you with temperature issues. The rate of heat dissipation in summer and winter govern the size of the A/C to keep you cool and the furnace to provide heat as needed. You didn't do any calculus - but the company that installed your central air unit did some math based on the size of your house and the quality of your insulation.

The shape of mobile phones can be modelled using mathematical functions and calculus.

Machines are then fed this information in order to cut the moulds in a factory. Plastic is then injected into the mould, cooled and out pops a phone case.

No calculus => no phone => no extra limb for people => panic stations.

Calculus is used in calculations used by air traffic controllers, so without it we would all be flying at 500 m.p.h. in the dark...hoping not to collide with something!!

Remember, just because you may not see the practical everyday applications of calculus, there are industries out there that rely on it to give us all we need in the modern world and take for granted.

Look at the wider picture.

Do you watch "The Big Bang Theory"? They use calculus to solve the problems that the are always showing on their boards.

=== Everyday use .. Sheldon uses Calculus for his theoretical physics.

Some real mathematician from CalTech checks their boards to make sure there are no errors .. unless it is a planned error that one of them must fix by changing something on the show.

Nearly everything in engineering requires the ability to solve differential equations. Everything you use was designed through the filter of calculus. The way your car's engine works, the way airplanes fly, the way a pacemaker regulates a heartbeat, etc... All of those things needed calculus to make them work effectively.

Have you ever wondered when in your life you'd need to know what an iambic pentameter is? Why is it only math that has to go through the whole, "WHEN WILL I NEED THIS!?" nonsense?

The only time you would ever need calculus is if your job requires it. Like a geographer or astronaut.
