What do you think explains this ambivalence on the part of Apollo and Artemis?

Artemis is two-sided in a similar way: she is the patron divinity of wild animals, the potnia theron, yet she also hunts them. And although she is a virgin divinity, she is connected with the deaths of young wives in childbirth and also is the divinity to whom young girls dedicate their long hair and their toys when they are getting ready to be married.
