why is it said that native americans came from Asia? ?

I often hear people saying that native americans came from Asia... but never specify the country they came from!

I found this information "All told, the data decisively dispel suggestions, based on the distinctive skull shape of a few ancient remains, that early populations had a different ancestry from today's Native Americans. "Native Americans truly did originate in the Americas, as a genetically and culturally distinctive group. They are absolutely indigenous to this continent," Raff says."

Why do so many people claim that native americans came from Asia? also, if native americans came from asia then why when a native american gets a dna ancestry test, s/he is told that s/he is 90% native american? why isn't s/he told "You're 90% asian" if supposedly native americans came from Asia?

No countries in the modern sense existed at the time; the place from which they came is now part of Russia.

Since then, there have been enough DNA mutations to distinguish the DNA of those who came thousands of years ago from those who stayed in Asia.  If you think about it, if you go back far enough, everyone of every race came from wherever the first humans lived (probably Africa), but when they take a DNA test, it doesn't say that everyone came from there, because the tests are designed specifically to look at DNA that changed in the last 500-20,000 years.

I have no clue other than possibly when the two continents were connected.

At the time people cross the land bridge from Asia, there were not "countries".  If several scientific studies are read it becomes obvious.

Nothing to do with genealogy research....... this is about science and the scientific research of migration of humans 10,000 and centuries before, well before 'countries' existed

To counter the claim that Native Americans are more indigenous than white americans.

    >  why isn't s/he told "You're 90% asian"

because their DNA is too different

DNA-tests don't show your actual ancestry. They show relatedness to people in the DNA-company's database. Everybody has mutations. The only chromosome you share with your 18th cousin twice removed may be unrecognisable

Technically, they did not come from Asia, since the name Asia didn't even exist. Check DNA studies -

Indians were more like asians than Europeans or Arabs or Africans southern Asia like China and Japan are signifcantly different in features the American indian looks more like mongolians eastern Russians its possible they island hopped like the Vikings did in northern America , its just basic and not certain at all but Islands all over the world were inhabited before modern civilisation started to log everything ,

A country can't be identified because countries did not exist at that time. And the populations have diverged since then. Asians and Native Americans now have enough distinct DNA that their DNA can be distinguished from each other.
