SSD or M.2 Meaning?

Am I understanding it right or not if a SSD 256gb is for storage and the M.2 card is not for storing but for loading like the memory?


and also whats a intel optane 16gb

    No you aren't right, an M.2 card is simply a different form factor for an SSD. SSDs come in various packages M.2 cards ,2.5" etc. Both are used for non-volatile storage.

    Intel optane is intel's method of using a small amount of fast memory between the CPU and HDD to improve the performance of hard drives without the expense of going for a whole SSD

    M.2 is a form factor for a specific slot. M.2 comes in both SSD and NVMe types. NVMe is substantially faster than SSD. NVMe has one notch and ssd has two notches. M.2 comes in various lengths as well.

    no. it is very confusing.

    SSD is the type of storage, using flash memory chips. this may use one of several connection types, such as SATA or the newer m.2 or even PCIE boards.

    also watch for NVME, with is use to describe faster m.2's.
