How can a rich, financially well-off person sue a poor, homeless person & win? ?

A rich person can sue a poor person. Their respective financial positions has nothing to do with the suit and who would win. But the poor person may well be "judgement proof". Which means even if they lose they cannot pay any judgement leveled against them.

I don't claim to know every law in every country, but it sounds like a really douche
thing to even consider doing. Isn't the rich, financially well-off person rich enough?
And isn't the poor, homeless person already dealing with more than they should?

They can win but if you have no assets what the hell do they get? But yeah, the courts are corrupt. They don’t give a sh it about vulnerable people. Unless maybe you live in a liberal place like New York City. Then maybe you have a shot

By proving by a preponderance of the evidence that they are legally in the right. Winning means getting the loser to stop doing whatever it is they were doing. Winning does not guarantee recovering financial losses.

How can one person win and another lose? The one who wins has more proof.
And if you are asking about money judgments, they are valid for 10 years, renewable for 10. It is the thought of the person holding the judgment that some time in the next 20 years the "poor homeless person" will come into money.
Incidentally, homeless people are difficult to locate, so these cases are few and far between.

Anyone can sue anyone for anything in the US. Why one would bother to sue someone who has no money and no assets though is another question. It would just be a waste of attorney's fees to get a judgment the sued person could never pay.

You could "win" if the poor person has done something to cause you financial loss. But actually getting money from the person is another issue.

Better question is why would they want to? You cant get blood from a stone.

Sure, if they had a reason to sue them. hey probably wouldn't waste their time, with nothing to gain.
