What hurts more ? A root canal or a dental filing?

Neither should be painful as your dentist will use local anesthetic to ensure the tooth and nerve and numb before the procedure starts. If you do feel any discomfort, just raise your hand and inform your dentist.

A root canal, probably. That means an exposed nerve ending, and yeah it can sting a bit having that messed around with... but of course not having it fixed will hurt more.

Look, if you have a good dentist, then neither of them are that bad. The difficult part is sitting there with your mouth open for a long time. With a root canal, it's longer, you may have to keep your mouth open for a couple of hours (with short breaks...).
