Is an FN FAL on full auto just not a good idea?

    Yes. You'll struggle to hit much with with the M16s 5.56 cartridge on full auto let alone the FN-FALs much more powerful 7.62 cartridge. There was a very good reason why it was originally designed was use a much lighter intermediate cartridge before America got stupid and threw it's weight around to get others to standardise on a cartilage that was too powerful for the needs of a rifleman.

    what do you think the A stands for?

    Fusil = rifle

    Automatique = automatic

    Légère = light (weight)

    No its a fine weapon, auto or not. 

    The heavy barrelled versions are quite suitable for extended full auto and sport bi-pods.  The light ones have too much muzzle climb.
