You pay back taxes on income and not on vehicles.

It depends on what you paid for the truck.

If you are in a state where you have to pay annual taxes on the truck, then they would have impounded it for lack of tax payments if the taxes had not been paid yearly.

In some states, once the vehicle is that old the annual personal property tax is only $250.00 to $300.00.

So, re-post the question and give the state that you live in.

(Note here:  If the truck was owned by someone who is in a state where you do not have to pay annual taxes on trucks, and you just bought it and moved it to YOUR state...You do not have to pay back taxes to your state for the previous 40 years...You just pay the tax for this year)

It depends on where you live. There are no taxes on vehicles where I live, just annual tag fees. I used to live in GA and there are annual taxes on vehicles but they vary by county. You need to look it up on your county’s web site.

If you are buying the truck in a state that charges sales tax, you pay the usual state percentage times the sales price.
