I got a new Roborovski Dwarf Hamster a few days back, he has a lovely big cage with plastic tubes running round the outside, a big wheel inside and a play hide and seek wooden set inside with a nice bed, breathable. He seems to of settled in well after 24 hours, he started to eat and drink and came out for a little bit. Now, all he seems to do is scratch at his plastic tubes, repeatedly and won’t stop then he will go drink and then continue to do it again, why is this? He lives under the stairs, we took the door off and made it up in there for him to live in there, put some lights in there for when we need to see him but most of the time they’re turned off and he’s on a big table under there, it’s his room. Why does he keep scratching all the time???

Possibly he has nerve condition or may be allergic to something in the cage. Only way to tell is tske to vet to have him checked out
