Why do mothers dismiss their abusive child's behavior?

Why do they think a rough childhood is an excuse to abuse the other child in the family?

They usually feel bad for the child and so they often use past abuse as an excuse for abusing others. Yeah it does contribute to the child becoming abusive towards other kids but it doesn't excuse them being abusive to other children. The abusive child needs to see a therapist so that they can get help with their behavioural issues.

Most often because their own childhood included the same trauma.  As a result they think it is "normal" and is the main underlying reason why family abuse perpetuates itself from one generation to the next.
