How come in medieval times, they made some disturbing art?

This painting was from the great famine of 1315. Which claimed the lives of over 7 million people.

    You mean they didnt have Iphones or CGI technology back then? look how sloppy the coloring is and how poor the faces are drawn. Looks like a 4 year old kid painted that.
