What's the difference between Genre and style?

I need more information on what's the difference between genre and style.  

Update:

I'm speaking in reference to music.

    Floyd Cramer applied his "style" to music of various genres.  Chet Atkins also did that.

    There really isn't a difference.  Genre is something invented by record stores (yes, people used to buy music in stores in the stone age) to make shopping easier.  

    If they just went alphabetically, it would take people forever to browse through the massive selections.  Albums would appear in this order:  AC/DC, Beethoven, The Cure, Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, etc.  Arranging them by 'genre' meant shoppers could find the stuff they wanted faster.

    You'd think the internet would have eliminated the need for genres, but technology doesn't make people smarter.  More genres were invented, then sub-genres, then sub-sub-genres where "pre" and "post" were added at the beginning and "core" was added at the end of everything.

    A genre is a general category of a thing. Style is a more specific element of something. In other words Goth would be a genre and black nails or lipstick would be a style more specific to the Goth genre.
