Saying «I LOVE YOU» to a friend?

— I’m not a native English speaker —

WOULD YOU SAY TO A FRIEND “I love you” ? Would you use another expression?

In my native language there are two different expressions:

• one is used when you are referring to your parents, your partner, your wife/husband... and people you truly love;

• the other is usually used for friends and people you care about.

However, they both correspond to “I love you” in English.

Update:

Thank you in advance!

    Although I'm not a native English speaker myself, I would say ' love ' is stronger than ' like '.

    Personally I keep this word for people I really love.
