Assume that there are 6 routes from Denver to Dallas, 2 routes from Dallas to Orlando, and 6 from Orlando to Los Angeles.

In how many ways can merchandise be shipped from Denver to Los Angeles using these routes?

You seem to be confused.  I would not use a route to Denver or Orlando to ship anything from Denver to Los Angeles.

Try putting this in Mathematics next time :)

By the fundamental counting principle, if there are 6 ways to get to Dallas and 2 ways to get from there to Orlando and finally 6 ways to get from there to Los Angeles, the total number of ways would be the product.

     6 * 2 * 6 = 72 ways
