Does it happen just rarely when a pupil gets to outdo his martial arts master?

Specially if the master teaches everything he knows to his pupil

Update:

Many people assume that a pupil can't never become better or like his master

Some people are geniuses and learn things amazingly fast. If a teacher is average in IQ, and he has a student who is a genius, the student can soon outperform the teacher!

The goal of any learning is to build on what you are taught and that means you are suppose to do more than simply imitate your teachers. Most students (and not just those in martial arts) do not understand this and never "outdo" their teachers.

Yes, I used to beat my sensei all the time in jiu jistu. He was young and everything. Don't think that you can't be as good or better at martial arts, then the best fighters...

    1. A  master NEVER teaches everything. And teaches different puplis different things based on ability, training/conditioning and most of all trust.

    2. A pupils should never stop learning or training. Once a pupil always a pupil.

    3. Great pupils and masters never stop seeking knowledge or improvement of ones self. They also seek other source to further ones knowledge and understanding of martial sciences. That may be seeking another instructor/master.

No, it happens all the time.

Ask yourself why all the martial arts medalists in the Olympics in karate, taekwondo, and judo are relatively young. Where are all the old masters?

The truth, as opposed to the pseudo-mystical nonsense people BS about, is that most students will reach a point where, due to their age relative to their instructor, they are faster, stronger, more agile and can beat them. That's what all instructors want!

nice answer and interesting comment; also, an Authentic Master would at that point simply win the all the matches, and instead they allow new entrants; and, most Students neverbecome Master level after any amount of time or at any age; & Olmpcs is a sports venue with very specialised features
