Could a witch curse herself?

I'm writing a character that is the first witch in real life and therefore has to create her own spells and learn her magic system as the magic on TV shows and books is just made up by writers and authors. I suppose I'm basically asking if there has been a circumstance before in which a witch has placed a curse on herself that she cannot break.

Yes. If she's into black magic. Satanists want to curse themselves.

As witches are purely fictional, they can do anything - or be unable to do anything - that the writer of their story chooses.
