what did people do in the 1929 depression to become rich?

other than buying discounted stocks, what else did they do

    Many people with small amounts of liquid cash were able to buy bankrupt businesses at bargain prices. During the Depression years demand on real estate was low and thus prices were low as well

    Worked hard and made smart decisions along the way.  Same as it works today just different era.

    I think most rich people coasted for a while on savings and investments like land. The world's economy didn't end, it just slowed down a lot. There was still international demand for consumer goods, commodities, steel, oil, and so forth.
