The murderers stay.  Lifers stay. But most are there for minor things like possession of Marijuana. or theft or being naked or speeding or driving without insurance or helping another person by lying for them.  So Mike Cohen is getting out.

yes, you are correct. Some people in prison will never get released. Some people in prison have consecutive life sentences. Sometimes this can be confusing when courts hand out a life sentence when it really means 25 years, while in other places in the united states a life sentence means the life of the person.

There's what's called life without the possibility of parole, natural life and a day, Then there are some, that receives multiple sentences, that are to be served consecutively, that are of such length, that won't ever be released from prison. Some the crime(s) committed, are so horrendous, and the person convicted of that crime has no remorse for what they did, who aren't desirable to be out at large in the community.

Sadly no the laws aren't always clear cut or black and white. It took me a while to learn to deal with the shades of gray. Yet sometimes that in some areas still plagues me.

Some... get too restless and impatient and reoffend within... yeah.

    It's a vicious cycle.

Being there would be hard to be motivated... and easy to get irritated.
