Can outside air get in?

So I live in a house where it has those AC on the windows. I'm certainly concerned that outside air (pollutants) or car exhaust fumes can get inside my room through the AC's. Is this possible? Or does it block it.

Depends on how well it's installed. If you see light coming in around the unit then yes some air can get in.  Some window units have a vent option on them if it's opened then it's pulling in outside air.

It's actually good to have some air transfer from out to in.  If a house is to air tight the inside air can become worse than any outside air.  If your worried about air quality then you'd be better served to get a air scrubber.  There not cheap but do a excellent job at cleaning air.

the a/c does not allow external air into the house unless you have set the controls to do that

A window AC unit does not transfer outside air into the house, it only transfers heat out. This is why the air filter is on the inside of the house.

Not much. Window AC recirculate inside air.
