Will Biden's decision to select a running mate based on their sex, and not just qualification, help or hurt his chances of winning?

Do more voters support identity politics than equal opportunity?

Explain.

In Presidential politics, a running mate brings at least one of three things and the more the better. One is a social constituency (black, Asian, Latino, LGBTQ, female/male, younger voters, etc), second is a regional balance (less important these days), and third is an ideological constituency (progressive, moderate, conservative, etc).

The qualification piece is largely in the eye of the beholder. The US Constitution only requires you be a native-born US citizen and at least 35 years old. The rest is subjective. If education is an important piece, then Jill Stein, MD of the Green Party is probably the most qualified. We know how far that will go.

In short, the gender choice of Biden's selection will be more dependent on the other factors above.

he's a very desperate old pathetic foiker.  he'll need his female "running mate" to be sucking his wiener plenty so he can get through his futile "Run" while still alive.  of course then he has her murdered and he makes off with big $buck$ of campaign donations mind.

It will help because he WILL pick a black female.  Think about it, 50% of the voters are women, 33% of the voters are black.  If he gets all of those that's 83% of the voters.

    no

he is  not going to beat trump no matter what

who ever runs with him will be tarnished for the future

    that being said

"Do more voters support identity politics than equal opportunity? "

    Explain.

they are one is the same

Identity politics, sometimes referred to as identitarianism, is a political approach and analysis based on people prioritizing the concerns most relevant to their particular racial, religious, ethnic, sexual, social, cultural or other identity, and forming exclusive political alliances with others of this group, instead of engaging in more traditional, broad-based party politics

there is no equality in life never has been never will be

equal opportunity is like free cheese on the mouse trap

IT just makes him look even more senile as he has no idea who he wants.

    '

HE has probably forgot he said he was looking as 6 different women..

    "

IF he ends up choosing a MALE should he be impeached for LYING TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE and SAYING HE WAS GOING TO CHOSE A FEMALE...

    '

Isn't IT an IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE TO LIE LIKE HE WILL BE DOING IF HE DOES NOT CHOSE A FEMALE LIKE HE SAID ON NATIONAL TV HE WAS GOING TO DO..

I think it is a very calculated decision to try to improve his chances of getting elected.

JUST like Obama picking Biden (a known moderate from the South)

Happens in politics all the time.

Biden is going to pick a woman because his older sister is going to tell him to do it and he's a wimp that doesn't dare defy her.

Your question falsely assumes that no woman is qualified to be Vice President.  Many are.  You also falsely assume that the way that other candidates have done it, which has so far unfailingly resulted in the selection of straight white men for the Vice Presidency, is somehow a neutral application of "equal opportunity"

The question assumes no such thing. Biden is only considering a female VP because he believes it will help him in the election. He will pick the woman that gives him the best chance, not the female VP that he believes will do the best job.

I think overall, practicing affirmative action will hurt Biden more than help.  I think most of those who are into identity politics will vote for Biden regardless of who he picks, so he gains few votes there,  but I think many of the centrist swing voters are tired of identity politics and want the best person possible regardless of sex, so he'll lose a lot of those voters.

It's not just about the VP choice either.  In practicing affirmative action in his VP choice, Biden is sending a strong message that he will support identity politics over equal opportunity as a general rule if he wins.  Again, I think most middle of the road Americans are tired of identity politics.
