Did most European countries remain Roman Catholic during the Reformation?

In general, they split along north-south lines, with the southern ones remaining Catholic, and northern ones going Protestant.  This is just in general; Poland remained pretty Catholic despite being north.  And, in England, the Church of England was something in between.  Not quite Catholic, but, technically not Protestant either.
