Why is the weight standard for Border Collies so broad? All the way from 35 pounds to 55 pounds.?

    It may be in part due to the lines from which they were bred, and the dogs may have originally come from different areas. As others have said, females are a bit smaller. There are also longer furred dogs, and shorter furred dogs in regards to simple differences in appearance.

    Females are smaller; some lines are larger.

    It's the same with ALL breeds.
