can I increase my credit limit if I pay more than my balance?

my theory is if I pay ,ore than my balance, the extra payment will be added to my credit limit

Update:

I'm getting the stimulus and will buy lots of lotto tickets. I will have money!

    But yes, your theory might work if you did have money.

    They don't let people do that usually because you'd be undercutting their decision on the credit limit for your card.

    I don't think your credit limit will increase but your card  balance may go negative (below 0) therefore helping your credit score by lowering your card utilization

    Your credit score will rise by paying off the card in full each month and not using more than 30% of the limit. over time when the card renews your limit may go up if your other factors are also rising,

    I tried that once, but the bank doesn't like you to do that. I kept getting notices that my credit balance was over the limit.
