can the president and vice-president not be in the same room during a national emergency?

    Given the virulent nature of COVID 19 they certainly shouldn't be in the same room ever for the time being. There's a reason these offices don't travel together on the same airplane.

    I think they go into separate rooms when there’s a war. It’s to protect the chain of command in case the president is killed then the VP will be available. 

    If you have both in the same room then both can be killed and the speaker would take over.
