I would explain the problem with having rats around and how they carry

diseases and are a nuisance.  Yes I would continue to get rid of them.

I heard that rat moving something heavy in the attic near the pull-down stairs. I met him face to face when I stuck my head in at attic floor level...I had my .22 revolver in my hand loaded with lead ratshot...the end. I thought it was a feral cat at first when ran across the floor judging by noise.

That would be a normal human emotion.  If she goes bat guano crazy, time to kick her to the curb.

And every waking moment, they're dribbling urine to scent mark.

My Girlfriend can always feel bad for the rat. But rats are not good to have around, I shoot or kill them on sight. Well .... well most the time. A pellet gun works fine.

HOWEVER, being a Sportsman, even a rat may catch a break in the interest of what is right. I just could not shoot the baby rat in front of his buddy the baby bunny.

    * the rat is hiding in the grass just to the right of the bunny.

    This day the rat lived

That’d be bad if she died, but if she was the rat that’d be a different story

I posted this picture a couple of years ago and although the sign and rat are long gone the warning still goes for rats that destroy my stuff. GF?=No Comment!

BTW...the rat display and sign was all in fun regarding a YA  regular`s suggestion. The rat, on the other hand, is real and after at minimum of $600 in damage to my house  and other items.

I'd feed him some cheese, I've never seen a rat eat cheese. I'd spoil him with a cheese platter.. Cheddar.. Swiss.. Pepper jack..

A rat loves peanut butter. I bait all my traps with it and have been very successful.
