To keep the screen from getting damaged while packing it at the factory (and while installing it).

Side note, I love it when I have a piece of electronic equipment that I don't realize has plastic over some part of it, and then one day I notice it and peel it off, and omg... it's all shiny and brand new again!!!

(I'm a man of simple pleasures).

    To protect it during shipping.

Why even bother asking inane questions in the vehicle maintenance category, Roscoe.

That's what it supposed to do, David.

The film is a packaging protectant.  Nothing more.

Well, do you want a scratched up, dirty screen out of the box, or a nice fresh one protected with plastic?
