So, because of the coronavirus, do we have to start wearing masks when we go out in public (like going out to stores and other kinds of stuff)?

Some countries and areas and maybe some stores are requiring everyone to wear masks. Others are only suggesting it, not requiring it.

Yes, if you're going to be a responsible American, that's what you should be doing. Put your ego aside and wear a bandana or even a winter scarf tied over your face.

Any mask will prevent you form coughing on someone.  It could be cloth or a dust mask. N95 masks should only be used by health professionals on the job.

Who really cares? The whole country is going down the drain. Unless you are rich you’re going to be screwed. Why bother with the mask? I wouldn’t wear one if they were free.

Bull ****!  This is bad but the country and world will recover like they always do. Be part of the solution not the problem.

The Center for Disease Control is now encouraging people to wear medical masks when in public for two reasons: Some people with no symptoms might have the virus and be spreading it, and 2) Wearing the mask keeps out lots of unhealthy things, so your immune system will be stronger in fighting any future viruses or diseases.

State and local recommendations come into play with this question.

My partner wore a mask to a food store today. He has asthma and is vulnerable.

not yet but it WILL happen. there is no other alternative that has a chance to temporarily stabilize infection rates without crushing million's of people's livelihoods. but we will have to somehow educate mask wearing people to not be idiots - to start or continue to frequently wash their hands, still not touch their faces, engage in some Social Distancing Crap, and keep their masks fresh or clean if worn for days at a time.

Yesterdays update said that in the US, wearing a mask was recommended but voluntary.  Since you don't say where you live, we have no idea what the requirements are there.  Or "other stuff".
