Is the lockdown pointless as so many people are ignoring it and should the Government in the UK lift it?

Update:

Many people are saying that they won't cower indoors because of an exotic flu virus and the Police can't arrest everybody, so what is the point of a lockdown?. Is it time the Government realized that they can't order people to do what they want.

Like the new Labour leader after winning the leadership..they totally ignored the social distancing they were hugging each other...shaking hands  and just in a group...no  it should not be lifted...they were showing  a very  bad example...they just did,nt  care.

NO! it took Boris quite a while to shut everything down hence why the numbers in the UK are so high and WHY Boris got it! Lockdown is needed so everyone can recover.

The lockdown is pointless, but not because people are ignoring it.

It's pointless because flu bugs are part of life and cannot ever be stopped.

Clearly the lockdown isn’t pointless as there’s a specific point to it. Is it going to work? That’s the million dollar question.

A lockdown combined with social distancing could reduce the infection rate drastically, thus potentially starving it of victims. Say on average an infected person could infect another 3 people and those 3 people another 3 each and so on, the virus would explode throughout the population in no time. If with a lockdown, social distancing and self isolation, you could say reduce the infection rate to 0.5 , then the virus would gradually dwindle away.

The other option is to try and create * herd immunity * when you hope that once you’ve caught and recovered from the virus you will be immune or at least partially immune to the virus. This idea is thrawt with problems, such as if the virus is left to its own devices will it mutate making your new gained immunity irrelevant? Does the amount of viral load effect your immunity? Will the virus become seasonal like the flu? Or will it become endemic regardless of seasons like the plague? Will there be multiple strains at once? Will people deliberately become infected to avoid any future lockdown?

We really don’t know that much about this virus so I’d rather errr on the side of caution

No, the lock down should not be lifted and if people ignore the rules the army will be brought in and martial law declared.

They have managed to drastically reduce the number of infections in China and that's because it's a disciplined society with citizens obeying the government directives.   If we are sensible and contine to self isolate these sanctions will be relaxed by June.

Failure to to obey will destroy our economy completely and hundreds of thousands will die.

They have managed to drastically reduce the number of infections in China, do you believe those grubs? Their statistics can't be realistic.
