Do unborn fetuses have brains?

This may come as a surprise but babies five minutes before they are born look very much like babies five minutes after they were born.

They have had beating hearts from about six weeks.

Most of the brain is working after six months and the final touches are made in the final three months.

Yes, and on the 25th week of pregnancy, their brain shows for the first time steady, perfectly recognizably human brainwave patterns.

At some point, their brains start to produce awareness. But not right away. A fetus is any embryo that is past the 8th week of conception. It is not the embryo before that point in development.

Initially, there is no brain.  The first thing that happens, between the 17th and 30th day after conception, is that a neural tube forms in the embryo. And this tube will eventually develop into the spinal column and a beginning brain at one end .. continuing to grow through the pregnancy (and the brain doesn't finish growing until the person is in their early-mid 20's).
