It helps to look online at the site that has something like this.

    Application for VISA.

You fill in the form and it is added to the pile of MILLIONS of other applications.

From the pile about 10% get a visa.

Your objective is to have an application just a bit better than 90% of  the others.

Same way as any other nationality gets a  visa, they have to be sponsored by a US parent/sibling/spouse or an employer who offers them a job s they are highly skilled/hughly educated in an area of work required in the US

To immigrate, you must be sponsored by an immediate relative who is US citizen & who earns enough to support self, all dependents, and you. Depending on your relationship to your US-relative, it will take up to about 15 years before you get an immigration interview.

For a temporary stay, there are student visas if you are accepted by a university/grad school, and have sufficient funds for all school + living expenses + return transportation to your country of citizenship. You return home immediately upon completion or termination of full-time studies. You are strictly prohibited from working.

For temporary employment, you must qualify for some type of temporary visa, apply with QUALIFIED employers who have open positions. IF you are successful in getting the job, the employer must apply for your temporary employment visa.

Canadian citizens might qualify for TN visa. Look up requirements online. Again, it is temporary, if you qualify.
