When we were visiting a friend at the hospital some nurses were outside smoking. One of us asked the nurses why they were smoking. They said while it was bad for their health it was good for their nerves. That probably applies to smoking moms too.

Same reason many dads do... they started young thanks to the tobacco industry ads targeting youth, and then found that nicotine is an amazingly addictive drug.

This comes, BTW, from a former smoker who found it easy to quit... did it dozens of times (HA... old joke). I started young... don't know if you remember the 'Joe Camel" ads...

Usually people who smoke are introduced to it at a young age or stressed. Being a mother is stressful and that's why they either smoke or drink wine a lot.

Stress. That many people enjoy heaping on them. "You have to be perfect! You're a MOM! Now how can I make that more difficult for you?"
