    no there are pieces that are other colors like red instead of white or anything you want. Someone has to go first.

    Chess was invented hundreds if not thousand of years ago and comes from an Asian culture, simply no, they didn't model it after Caucasian people and African people as, being in an ancient Asian culture, they didn't care about either group. It doesn't have anything to do with race, most likely it has to do with the symbolism each color is associated with.
