Do you think that the cancellation of the olympic games was taken too early?

My personal opinion is that it is a bit early to decide this.

Because first of all, the coronavirus is a completely new virus which don’t know a lot about. One of the things we do not know is whether high temperatures could kill the virus. If this would be the case, there could be still a lot of people recovering from the virus, but the virus will no longer be spread in the environment once it dies quicker.

To be honest, I am not very sure why this decision was taken during this time.

Update:

I am sorry to call some of you this way, some people's answer makes sense but at the same time there are people who are stupid. Yes, really.

The fact that there are cases in hot countries like India, does not give us any evidence that hot temperatures don't kill the virus. Most people who have it came from abroad. You people don't think right.

It can be transmitted via contact, but it is not known how long this virus can survive on surfaces under high temperatures.

Actually it took TOO LONG. The training facilities are all closed. The athletes can't train for the events. That's why some nations announced they won't go BEFORE the IOC finally agreed to suspend the events. They aren't cancelled, they plan to hold them in a year.

    No!

It sounds like you have two arguments:  1.  That warmer weather decreases infection, 2. That the warmer climates that have infections are mostly due to foreigners.

On the premise that both are true, you are overlooking that infection is still possible in warm climates.  You are also overlooking the mass of foreigners that convene for an international athletic competition and how that would effect the native population of the host country.  Thus your arguments against canceling the Olympics are actually reason why it should be canceled.

Japan has dodged infection well so far, but would be playing with fire to invite the world over the summer without a working vaccine.

Your personal opinion counts for nothing.  The fact is that it's a big event and athletes need to know NOW whether to gear up their training for July, hotels need to know whether people are coming to the Games or not, Tokyo needs to know whether it needs to go ahead with its plans for transport, etc etc etc.

If heat killed the virus, why are there over 1,000 cases in India, which is hotter than Japan?  But that's hardly relevant.  It's a big event.  It needs lots of planning.  It's daft to cancel it at the last minute.

And what does this have to do with law and ethics?

Of course we know that the heat does not kill the virus from the number of infections in all those countries where it was summer, or year round hot temperatures.

Such as Israel, Turkey and Australia etc.

Japan had been pressed to postpone the games long before they actually did postpone them. The final decision was made by public health experts. In this time we have to rely on doctors and health experts and NOT on lay people who have no medical background like you and Trump.

Absolutely not.   Only a moron would think it's a good idea to cram that many people together before a safe and effective vaccine has been approved and used.

Clearly you are not a virologist. Also you clearly do not understand the logistics of holding the Olympic games.

It would take months for local business to build stock, etc to support the influx of people, hire extra folks, etc. That's just local business.

Because these things need time to organise and the athletes needed to know where they stand.

You are right we don't know. However we do know that no humans have immunities to this as it is totally new and that is enough reason
