Which word is correct?

She knitted a pair of gloves and gave (it / them) to her grandson.

    Technically, IT, because it's replacing "a pair", which is singular.

    However, many people would think of it as two gloves, which is plural, so then THEM makes sense.

    In practical language, you can use either one.   In extremely formal English, IT is the correct answer.

    You can avoid the problem by saying:  ....knitted two gloves and gave them...

    Since "two gloves" and a "pair of gloves" are the same thing, you can make the case that THEM is also correct. 

    Most people would say THEM in their daily lives.
