After displaying remarkable ineptitude can a president exonerate himself?

Not this one. He's already been impeached and the Senate failed to exonerate him with their mockery of a "trial". Trump was "not guilty" but definitely not exonerated. This COV-19 thing is more proof Trump is unfit to be POTUS and Republicans are unfit to lead....something we all knew, of course.

It's possible, but I don't think sane Americans will ever consider the orange, corrupt joke to have been exonerated.

This one clearly can -- with a little help from his "friends".

That varies on a case by case basis. Some of us are prone to forgive those sincerely seeking it. After all, it's human to err. I tend to have no respect for someone who obviously needs to admit mistakes. It's important to note, the lack of accountability facilitates more misbehavior.
