Can “Amy” be short for Amanda?

    A nickname can be anything you want it to be and doesn't have to be the typical nickname for the given name.

    My oldest daughter's nickname is "Mouse" and it has NOTHING at all to do with her given name.

    I think Amy is fine for a child named Amanda.

    Yes it can, although the sounds are different and people will likely assume she prefers to be called Mandy.

    You can use anything you want to for a nickname. Mandy sounds more like what would be used for shortening Amanda. But if you prefer Amy, go ahead and use it.
