Why is drinking Gatorade and powerade bad for kids and adults when not working out?

So my daughter ( 4 yrs) grabbed for some powerade and the gf yelled (her mom) that it's not good for her to drink. Why is that?

Not bad but its not a healthy option. Its just sugar water and hardly enough salts to keep you hydrated

Because it's a beverage with lots of sugar content. Gatorade and all those sport drinks are not mean to be a source for hydratation for people who aren't athletes.

Because they are overloaded with sugar, sodium and other minerals (call electrolytes) that would be too much for someone who has not depleted the electrolytes in their body from a heavy workout. And even after working out, drinks like Gatorade and Powerade are loaded with preservatives, artificial colors, and even in some cases hydrogenated oils. They are also overpriced because you can easily buy perfectly suitable natural isotonic drinks for less than half of Gatorade or Powerade.

Your gf lied to keep the child from her drink. Parents do that you know.

It really isn't that good to drink even if you have worked out. It is basically just pure sugar and water with a negligible amount of electrolytes in it, that really don't replenish enough to warrant drinking it. You would be much better off leaving it on the store shelf and just drinking water. Way better for you.

Too much sugar for one thing.

Also, those drinks have electrolytes which people working out strenuously or in hot weather lose when they sweat.

I can think of no  time a 4-year-old would need a beverage like that unless they had been sick with vomiting and/or diarrhea. Even then, there are beverages geared for children for that purpose.

    1 TROLL.

Is she is 4 and that stuff is designed for adults. It can do some serious damage.

A lot of HFCS and other fructose derivatives Also electrolytes (Can be to much for child), can cause serious health problems.
