Why do we have to quarantine the whole world ?

Let’s look at the facts , the virus death rate is about 4% max and most of the casualties are over 70s

Why don’t we isolate the elderly , and people obv who are sick with something else . Keep them in for 2-3 weeks , set up government programmes to help them , while rest of us go out and catch it and build immunity to it , eventually it will weaken and become like common cold .

We can’t run forever from it . We can’t hide in our homes forever to protect 3% of our society .

Yours is a good idea. According to Herd Immunity,

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herd_immunity

if 80% of people got that illness and then recovered, the whole society will be immuned from that illness.

" become like common cold ." "eventually it will weaken"

    Unfortunately that's not the case.

The reason for the quarantine this that this virus can MUTATE into something worse.

This means that it can turn into a monster of such dimension that we could well have a death rate far greater than that of the world-wide Spanish Flu outbreak in 1918.

So thinking about it, your attitude seems somewhat self-centred!! An irresponsible attitude, that could well cost ``YOU´´ your life and the lives of many others.

Because of idiots who don't understand that sickness and death are part of life.

Since you posted that the virus that had only killed 800 in the USA has now killed over 2000 in the USA that's how fast it's spreading. That's the real problem and it's also believed it can mutate.

It's a very small percentage of people who actually die and the young woman didn't die from the virus so say the NHS.

Some of the deaths have been young people who are fit and healthy.  A 21 year old woman, who didn't have any other underlying illness & a 46 year old fit man.  Those are just the people we've heard about, but I'm sure they aren't isolated cases.

If we follow the rules, of not meeting up with anyone outside our own homes, for the next 3 weeks, we may just start getting less cases.  As it is, at the moment in the UK, the deaths are increasing twice every 2 days.

USA has a horrendous amount of deaths and it'll only get worse.  We all need to do our bit, as our Health Services just can't treat so many thousands of people, all ill at the same time.

The objective is to limit the spread and slow it down enough that health facilities can cope with the numbers.

It's not just old people, it is across the range but when it comes to lack of facilities they prioritise the younger ones.

In Italy that have basically given up helping anyone over 70, and are focusing their efforts on people around 50 and under. With limited resources this is the best they can do.

This is why the death rate is over 70, not because it only affects people over 70.

Why don't those at more risk just stay in?

I've been saying that but nobody listens and looks silly with a mask on that isn't even going to help, yes it should just run its course until enough people get immunity and then it doesn't have anywhere to jump anymore.
