Per the fairchild datasheet I downloaded, the thermal resistance junction to ambient is 200°C/W.
If the device is dissipating 625 mW, then the jusntion will be:
0.625 W * 200°C/W = 125°C above ambient.
If the ambient is 50°C, then the junction will be:
125 + 50 = 175°C
Absolute max safe operating temperature (junction) is -55 - 150 °C. So no, it is not operating in a safe range.
