Benefits of CoronaVirus?

What impact do you think the coronavirus could potentially have on foreign policy. Obviously none of us know what this virus is, or how long it could take (some say years). Do you think that a silver lining of this virus (forgive my potential lack of sensitivity) is that it can cause a dire financial collapse that will completely distract the US from dangerous foreign adventures.

More likely, it will see Trump feel vindicated for his anti-internationalist rhetoric. He'll feel better able to pull out of NATO and other international organisations, upending the rules-based order and in turn giving other countries the confidence to do the same (or to carry on ignoring international sanctions etc.). We then basically descend into the wild west, all countries out for themselves, which is likely in the long run to increase the likelihood of the USA having to get involved in foreign adventures to protect their interests.

The benefits right now are socialist benefits- country wide income etc. Bernie is looking better.

The US has always funded its armies, frequently to the peril of its own domestic population. My guess would be if anything this virus will make the whole world a lot more dangerous and prone to military conquest. Don't be so naive that you don't think dwindling resources will lead to even more wars of opportunity to feed and clothe the so called "first world".

Companies and corporations in the US will always try to maximize their profits. If it means going somewhere else, they'll do it.

Like it or not, that’s part of capitalism. I’m not sure why people felt it was ever supposed to be different.

However, I do see this US trying to tighten visas and immigration up some.

One noticeable benefit is that the air around us is cleaner than usual due to all the business and the factories being closed. Probably this will reduce global warming by 0.0001%.
