Which sentence is better?

A. They removed scratches on the hall floor.

B. They removed scratches on the floor of the hall.

    "They removed the scratches from the hall floor" would be better than either of those in my opinion.

    Most Americans would say they removed scratches on the hall floor.  

    In the UK they would say they remove scratches on the floor of the hall.

    For some reason Americans like to cut short everything they speak, it's just their way I suppose.

      Sorry, Gloria, but here in the UK it would be perfectly normal to talk about 'the hall floor'.
