How far do you agree that personality is a key factor in achieving a successful career?

Personality is only one key. Depending how successful you want to be it will  take more factors such as honesty, integrity, hard work & patience. A good friendly personality is much better than an arrogant pushy one which would lend to a more happy successful life. Works for me anyway.

Another more important factor is the ability to learn.

If you follow the Big 5 theory, Conscientiousness is the biggest factor in achieving a successful career but it is not that simple because there is another related construct called Grit that would help you achieve a successful career.

I'd go half of the way on that. Granted, even ancient people realized that luck had a great deal to do with it too. Hard working intelligent people are the most successful. That's luck right there. What are the chances that you're both though? About 1% of that. Maybe up to 5%.

If you're intelligent you are a quarter of the way there. If you're hard working you're another quarter of the way there. Slap 50% of luck there and you got the whole pie!

Granted, and this "granted" is huge. If you're headed towards a goal and you're moving mountains to get there, then you're successful already.

A personality that includes the best in human behavior will be beneficial to achievement in all cases.  A personality that includes the bad in human behavior will always result in underachievement.  Inherent personality traits such as extrovert, introvert, sensing, thinking, feeling, perceiving, etc. are not a factor.  The traits that matter are the ones that are voluntary and require forethought--honesty, responsibility, integrity, self-control, etc.

Your personality plays an important role in achieving your goals.

To achieve a goal, first you should have a clear picture about it. Then, think about it always. Better to keep a picture with you that reminds it all the time. This will enforce you to change your personality, sometimes without your knowledge. This is a working method for many people who achieved their goals.
