Can I get a disease from holding a mouse? ?

I saved it from my cat and carried it away to the garden and now I'm worried I could've got a disease? It didn't bite me or scratch me and I washed hands straight away. I have huge anxiety so slightly panicked.

Let us know it two days when you're vomiting, diarrhea and feeling like death. Mice VERY often carry norovirus.

It's very unlikely that you are going to get sick from holding a mouse if the mice did not bite you/scratch you/pee on you and you washed your hands. Washing your hands with soap is the best thing you can do after touching wildlife. Depending on where you live, leptospirosis and hantavirus can be concerns but it does not sound like you had an exposure. Try to avoid touching any wild mice in the future - they do carry disease. Also very unlikely to get rabies from a rodent, so that's generally not considered an exposure even if you did get bit.

No you can't get sick, but your cat is not going to stop catching mice.

No, only if it bit you or badly scratched you then maybe, but you will be fine, especially if you wash your hands.
