Have you ever been to a place you lived in or visited decades before and it had not changed much at all?
Conversely have you been back to a place and it had changed drastically

In late 1977 went to house I lived in 1951-54 and it was much the same.
Same trip I went to my dad's house where he lived in 1928-34. Not changed at all.
Nice house my parents built in 1961 has been a group home for decades.
My apartment building from 1972-3 is now a shopping center.

I have only experienced the latter. Sometimes change isn't noticed because it's gradual. My home town has changed drastically and I see it at least weekly. My brother who lives in another country only comes back occasionally and simply does not recognise the place at all.

Yes. Very few thing stay the same. With Google Earth you can visit just about anywhere. I have done that and none of the places I have checked are the same. Some parts are the same but many other things have changed.
I believe it was Thomas Wolfe who said you can't go home. That is kind of what you are asking about.
